CERTIFICATE IN JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION

INTRODUCTION

Department of Communication and Media Technology offers courses in Journalism and Mass Communication leading to the award of Maseno University Certificate. The program targets those who wish to start a career in Journalism and Mass Communication or assist those interested in advancing within the profession. The programme is designed to enhance knowledge and practical skills in writing, editing and production of materials for print and broadcast Media at such a time of dramatic change.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the programme are to:

a. Equip students with knowledge in Journalism and Mass Communication.

b. Expose students to practical skills in News writing and production.

c. Familiarize students with legal and ethical issues involved in News gathering, writing and production.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

a.) The University admission requirement shall apply.

b.) Applicants must also have attained a minimum grade of D+ in KCSE or its equivalent, with at least a C- in English or Kiswahili.

PROGRAMME DURATION

Duration of the Certificate Course shall normally be two (2) semesters.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

a.) The department offers courses in terms of units as defined by the Faculty.

b.) The normal full time load for the one academic year shall normally consist of a minimum eight (8) units and a maximum twelve (12) units.
