UNESCO Awards Department of Communication and Media Technology a Research Grant

The Department of Communication and Media Technology has won a UNESCO research grant through a bid that was submitted to it by a team of researchers led by Dr. Charles Nyambuga as the Lead Researcher. The others in the research team include: - Dr. Adams Yakub as the Deputy Lead Researcher, Dr. Molly Ali Researcher, Daniel Misiani Co-Researcher, Penina Wanza, Co-Researcher, George Ojuondo, Co-Researcher, Robert Odhiambo Analyst.



In their official statement by the Director and Representative of UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa, Madam Ann Therese Ndong-Jatta to the University, she states that “we wish to inform you that UNESCO has selected the Department of Communication and Media Technology at Maseno University to conduct a comprehensive study and analysis of the state of media development in Kenya”. The communication further appoints Dr Nyanbuga, senior lecturer and Chairman, of the department from Maseno University as the Lead Researcher and designates Mr. John Okande, National Programme Officer, UNESCO Regional Office for Eastern Africa to provide technical support to the team. The University Vice Chancellor Professor Julius Nyabundi has congratulated the research team and appreciated UNESCO’s recognition of the Department of Communication and Media Technology for its excellence. He advised them to ensure that they achieve and even surpass UNESCO’s expectations.



This research study is to be conducted using UNESCO Global Media Development Indicators (MDIs) guidelines and will result in an evidence-based baseline about the state of media development and also contribute to media policy dialogues for improved the media landscape in Kenya.
