B Sc. Environmental Science


BSC, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE (WITH IT) DEPARTMENT
The department of Environmental Science offers a wide range of courses leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science. The courses are designed to produce graduates who are exposed to practical, theoretical, global environmental issues, human modern aspects of the discipline. The program aims at creating manpower able to meaningfully assess environmental resources including their nature of occurrence and extent including quality. The program endeavors to prepare scientists who can participate widely in development related activities such as planning of resource use and management. 



 


 


ENTRY REQUIREMENT


1.0    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To be admitted to the   programme BSC Geography and Natural Resource Management with IT applicants must;

1.     Satisfy the minimum entry requirements for admission to the university.
2.     Satisfy the entry requirements for the admission to the School of Environment and Earth Sciences which must be at least a C+ in Geography and a C+ in Mathematics.

2.0    PROGRAMME   DURATION

The duration of the programme shall normally be four academic years


3.0   COURSE STRUCTURE

a)    The program offers courses in terms of units as defined by the university.
b)    There are core and elective courses. Core courses are mandatory, while elective courses may be chosen by students from an approved list of courses, in fulfilling the full-time load requirements as spelt by the university
c)    The normal full-time load for one academic year shall be at least fourteen (14) units but not more than sixteen (16) units


4.0   EXAMINATION REGULATIONS

a)    The common university regulations shall apply
b)    Examinations shall be held at the end of the semester in which the courses are taught.
c)    All taught courses shall be assessed by a two and a half hours written examination constituting 70 percent of the total marks. Continuous Assessment Tests shall be based on written tests and assignments constituting 30 percent of the total marks
d)     At the end of the fourth year, students shall undertake a 12 weeks industrial attachment. This shall be assessed according to the regulation of the School of Environment and Earth Sciences and marked out of 100 percent.
