Welcome you to Maseno University Library!

Mr. Daniel Opiyo

The Library is integral to the academic activities of the University. This is because of the pivotal role it plays in teaching, learning, research and outreach programmes. The Library performs two complementary, yet, crucial purposes: to support the curriculum and to support faculty and student research. This important role has elevated the Library to the status of a pivotal point in intellectual pursuits and an enduring symbol of the University’s commitment to academic excellence. The Library’s core mandate revolves around key functional areas of any academic library which is to identify, select, acquire, organise, preserve and disseminate knowledge and to serve as a leader in the advancement of the best knowledge management principles and practices.

The Library has embraced technology in all its operations with a view to improving service delivery and satisfying the ever-growing user needs. All key operations such cataloguing, circulations, acquisitions, patron data management and information search and retrieval services, have since been automated. The Library’s main database is accessible through the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) Module which also serves as the gateway to subscribed and open access online educational information resources.

With the focus on improvement of library and information services, the Library has its operations distributed across 5 branches, namely: Main Library, Postgraduate Library, Kisumu Campus Library, Odera Akang’o Campus Library and eCampus Library that serves the Open and Distance e-Learning (ODEL) community.
Today, the Library boasts of a rich pool of diversified collections which range from printed books, journals, reports, manuscripts, newsletters, pamphlets, to student theses, dissertations and research projects. The Library also subscribes to a number of online academic research databases, e-journals, and e-bookssources to supplement its current print collections. This material is accessible by the users both On-Campus and Off-Campus. More so, the Digital Library section facilitates the students to access Internet services to search, locate and retrieve relevant education information resources. In addition, the Library maintains a digital repository that captures and preserves the University’s intellectual output (theses, journal articles, research findings and conference proceedings), thereby making such works widely accessible to the students and faculty.
