Collaboration with the County Government of Siaya (CGS) and Tehran university of Medical sciences (TUMS), from Iran in the Establishment of a Cancer Management, Treatment and Research Centre in Siaya County

Maseno University (MSU) has signed an MOU to collaborate with the County Government of Siaya (CGS) and Tehran university of Medical sciences (TUMS), from Iran in the establishment of a Cancer Management, Treatment and Research Centre in Siaya County.
The collaboration will:
1. Promote transfer of technologies and specialized medical equipment and pharmaceuticals between Iran and The County Government of Siaya.
2. Provide specialized and advanced medical training to medical personnel and Cancer related researchers in Siaya County, MSU and TUMS.
3. Establish and promote an exchange program for medical personnel and researchers between the two academic institutions and the County Government.
4. Contribute to the promotion of Socioeconomic development and cooperation between the parties.
Maseno University Roles:
1. Capacity Building through Training and Research; Maseno University shall offer advanced training and conduct collaborative research in the fields of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and management, aligning with the goals of the MoU to improve health services in Siaya County.
2. Provision of Consultancy Services; MSU shall provide expert consultancies to support the establishment and implementation of the Cancer Management, Treatment, and Research Centre, leveraging its institutional experience and expertise in medical education and health sciences.
3. Participation in Medical Personnel Exchange Programs; The university will engage in academic and clinical exchange programs with both the County Government of Siaya and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, promoting skills transfer, shared learning, and collaborative research.
4. Collaborative Infrastructure and Program Development;
MU will actively participate in the joint development of healthcare and academic infrastructure, contributing to the planning, technical input, and implementation of mutually agreed academic, clinical, and technological initiatives under this partnership.

The collaboration will also support the construction and equipping of a comprehensive cancer care facility at Siaya County Referral Hospital, curriculum development in oncology, and academic exchanges. Additionally, the agreement promotes community engagement through cancer awareness and screening programs and includes a framework for monitoring progress. The initiative aspires to create a sustainable and impactful cancer care model for Kenya and the broader region.
