Commission for University Education (CUE) Survey in Maseno University on the Internationalization of Universities in Kenya

Maseno University hosted members from Commission for University Education (CUE) on Wednesday 4th June, 2025 for a strategic engagement aimed at assessing the University’s progress in advancing the internationalization of higher education in Kenya. CUE officials interacted with University staff and international students from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
The CUE delegation sought to gather data on several key areas which included:
- The number of international students enrolled across various Schools at Maseno University
- Facilities in place to support international students  
- Existing global student exchange programs  
- Partnerships and collaborations with foreign institutions and staff
This survey will feed into the upcoming second edition of CUE’s international education magazine, which will  highlight progress, challenges, and opportunities across Kenyan universities to the internationalization of university education in Kenya. The publication is expected to also benefit Maseno University by providing a platform for advertising.

The Director, Linkages, Outreach and Consultancies (LOC), Maseno University, Prof. Rose Ongati showcased potential opportunities offered by Maseno University to international students with inclusion of programmes offered via e-Campus for undergraduate and graduate levels. She also noted that the University actively supports outbound exchange for students seeking to study abroad.

Prof. Ongati also highlighted popular programmes that attract global interest at Maseno University which has also established itself as a hub for international research, currently hosting researches from countries including USA, Norway, UK, Netherlands, Italy, and Japan over the past four years. Additionally, the institution boasts 57 signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with both local and international institutions.
CUE’s visit is aligned with broader efforts to guide policy reforms through the related bodies to ensure international students and staff in Kenya experience seamless academic integration.
