Day Two of the International Study Association on Teachers and Teaching(ISATT) Regional Conference 2026
The second day of the International Society for the Advancement of Teacher Education (ISATT) Conference 2026 marked the official opening of the conference sessions, bringing together global education stakeholders to deliberate on research, collaboration, innovation, and teacher well-being.
In his opening remarks, ISATT Chairperson Professor Juan Mena welcomed delegates and expressed confidence that the conference would generate impactful dialogue and practical solutions to contemporary educational challenges.
Keynote speaker Professor John O. Adenle (University of Lagos, Nigeria) called for increased investment in arts-based research, noting its underrepresentation compared to the sciences and its importance in enriching teaching and learning.
Representing the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), Mr. Richard Kabuge reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to maintaining quality education through credible and robust assessment systems.
Dr. Rueben Nthamburi of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) highlighted the importance of strong teacher preparation policies, emphasizing the need to align Kenya’s education system with global standards to enhance learning outcomes.
Professor Collins Ouma, Director of Research at Maseno University, underscored the critical role of partnerships in advancing research, noting that collaborations with external organizations are key to sustaining innovation across African universities.
Mr. KEPFA Oguwi, Secretary General of TVET institutions in Kenya, emphasized inclusive stakeholder engagement, particularly the role of teacher unions in shaping practical and effective education policies.
The conference organizing committee, chaired by the Director of Linkages, Outreach and Consultancies at Maseno University, was recognized for successfully coordinating the event and fostering collaboration among stakeholders and partners.
The day concluded with a keynote address by Professor Charles Ong’ondo, Director of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), who emphasized the importance of teacher well-being, inclusive education, and continuous professional development as pillars for delivering quality education.
The conference also received support from development partners and sponsors, including KCB Bank, SmileHub, and Equity Bank Luanda, with Equity Bank Luanda contributing KSh 200,000 towards the event
