De Montfort University Delegation Visits Maseno University to Foster Research Collaboration

Maseno University hosts a delegation of distinguished professors from De Montfort University (UK), as part of a strategic partnership aimed at fostering collaborative research, academic exchange, which will impact community empowerment. The high-level visit, took place in the Vice-Chancellor’s Boardroom, marked the beginning of a 22-month joint initiative focused on advanced Molecular Research, Community engagement, and Capacity Building across the 7 sub-counties within Kisumu in the diagnosis of UTI through the molecular method.
The visiting delegation—led by Prof. Bertha Ochieng and Associate Prof. Shivanti Samaraging—was warmly welcomed by Maseno University’s leadership, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (AFD) Prof. Stephen Ogendo and senior academic staff. The meeting featured in-depth presentations from both institutions, showcasing aligned research priorities, methodological approaches, and potential areas of collaborative impact..
A key highlight of the visit was the agreement to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), solidifying the partnership between the two institutions. The MoU will focus on strengthening research methodologies, fostering meaningful stakeholder engagement, and developing strategic programs aligned with both universities’ visions. Priority areas include capacity-building for local researchers, inclusive community dialogues, and integrating empowerment initiatives into joint research efforts.

Prof. Collins Ouma and other biomedical research experts from Maseno University presented ongoing initiatives aligned with De Montfort University’s expertise, reinforcing a partnership that began six years ago. This collaboration has already involved joint data collection, analysis, and follow-up studies, as well as the exchange of faculty—including two lecturers from Maseno’s School of Public Health, led by Dr. Eunice Namayenga.
This research partnership is poised to generate innovative scientific breakthroughs while fostering local community development and strengthening academic capacity.
