The Fourth Annual Health Professions Education Conference, hosted jointly by Maseno University and Northwestern University, served as a platform to bring together Kenyan healthcare educators from diverse specialties and institutions to learn about the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare and health professions education.

The two-day conference featured a range of individual presentations, panel discussions, and plenary sessions focused on integrating Al into current healthcare practices and health professions educational models in Kenya. Highlights from day one included the keynote address “Reimagining Rheumatology Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” by Professor George Omondi Oyoo (University of Nairobi), “The Effect of Digitalization on Students Clerkship with the Hospital” by Dr. Allen Yienya (Maseno University), and “Artificial Intelligence Use Cases in Health Professions Education) by Dr. Wagaki Gicheru (Kenya Medical Training College). Day two shifted the conversation to articulating the way forward for leaders in health professions education both navigating and leveraging artificial intelligence.

It also marked the culmination of the inaugural Maseno University Northwestern University Health Professions Education Certificate Program. During the preconference session, 22 participants who completed the year-long course presented their scholarly projects and were awarded certificates in health professions education. Several graduates of the certificate program were invited to speak during the conference.

Together, these events reflect a strong commitment within the academic community to strengthen and advance health professions education in Kenya.
