Welcome to Maseno University platform for an online course on agroecology. This course is designed as a flexible self-study programme that allows participants to learn at their own pace while gaining essential knowledge on sustainable agricultural systems and integrated food production approaches.

The course introduces the scientific foundations and practical applications of agroecology, emphasizing environmentally sound farming practices that enhance productivity, strengthen resilience, and conserve natural resources. Learners explore key concepts such as biodiversity conservation, soil fertility management, nutrient recycling, ecological pest regulation, and climate-resilient farming systems that support long-term sustainability.

This online learning platform is developed under the PrAEctiCe Project, an initiative funded by the European Union and implemented by Maseno University in collaboration with diverse international partners. The programme reflects a shared global commitment to advancing knowledge, innovation, and capacity building in sustainable agriculture.

In addition, the course examines integrated aqua-agriculture systems, highlighting linkages between aquaculture and crop-livestock farming to improve resource efficiency and food and nutrition security. Special emphasis is placed on practical strategies that support smallholder farmers in transitioning toward agroecological production systems that are economically viable, socially inclusive, and environmentally sustainable.
