Maseno University recently welcomed officials from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) on 5th March 2026 for an important engagement focused on strengthening environmental responsibility across the institution.
The visit provided an opportunity for NEMA to assess how the University manages its waste while also offering guidance on maintaining and improving compliance with national environmental standards. At the heart of the engagement was a shared goal: ensuring that Maseno University continues to provide a clean, safe and sustainable environment for its students, staff and the surrounding community.

During the assessment, Maseno University demonstrated a well-structured and practical approach to waste management. From waste segregation at the source to proper collection and disposal systems, the University has put in place measures that not only meet regulatory expectations but also promote everyday responsibility among its community members.
A key highlight of the visit was the University’s handling of electronic waste (e-waste). In line with NEMA regulations, Maseno has established clear procedures for managing outdated and non-functional electronic devices such as computers and printers. These materials are carefully handled and disposed of through approved channels, ensuring minimal impact on the environment and safeguarding public health.

The engagement reflects the University’s broader vision of nurturing a culture of sustainability, one where every member of the community plays a role in protecting and preserving the environment
