Day 1 of the Medical Camp at the St. James A.C.K. in Marera unfolded with renewed energy, deeper community engagement, and expanded services.

By sunrise, hundreds of community members had already begun arriving — hopeful and eager to receive treatment. The registration team, supported by Betha Guya, Administrative Assistant, School Of Medicine and Maseno University’s sixth-year medical students, worked efficiently to ensure smooth flow and patient prioritization."

The day focused on general medical consultations, pediatric checkups, dental check-ups and non-communicable disease screenings, including blood pressure, and diabetes assessments.

Children were offered immunizations, nutritional evaluations and general treatment, while elderly patients received special attention for chronic conditions.

Maseno University’s medical students under the supervision of Dr. Norman Demba, Chairman Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences continued to work closely with experienced local and international medical professionals led by Dr. Ethlyne, putting their classroom knowledge into action — with supervision and mentorship every step of the way.

Additional services introduced on Day 1 included dental checkups, eye screenings, and health education sessions focusing on hygiene, nutrition, and lifestyle diseases.

In collaboration with National Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the team also launched a series of mental health and substance use awareness talks, targeting parents, youths, children and caregivers — a proactive step toward building healthier, informed communities.

More than just treatment, Day 1 of the camp embodied connection. Patients felt heard, students felt empowered, and the spirit of collaboration between Maseno University and the Ethlyn Hope Community Based Organization remained stronger than ever.

As the sun set over Marera, Day 1 came to a close with patients having been given consultations, tests, treatment and others even referred for further observation in medical facilities.
The journey continues… with hope, compassion, and care.
