Odera Akang’o Campus Officially Accredited as a Constituent Campus of Maseno University

Maseno University is proud to announce that Odera Akang’o Campus has received full accreditation from the Commission for University Education (CUE) as Campus of Maseno University.
This significant milestone follows a series of strategic developments over the past decade. The Campus, located in Yala, Siaya County, was initially established by Moi University and named after Ruoth Odera Akang’o, a revered Luo leader and historical figure. It functioned as a Moi University Campus until July 2021, when it was formally handed over to Maseno University in a ceremony presided over by key education stakeholders. Those who graced the event were Prof. Julius Nyabundi, Vice-Chancellor of Maseno University; Prof. Isaac Sanga Kosgei, Vice- Chancellor of Moi University; and the late Prof. George Magoha, then Cabinet Secretary for Education.
Since the transition, Maseno University has worked diligently to strengthen the academic and administrative structures at Odera Akang’o Campus. With the CUE’s full accreditation now in place, the campus is fully recognized under the umbrella of Maseno University, enabling it to offer a broader range of accredited academic programs.
Odera Akang’o Campus is home to the School of Development and Strategic Studies, offering programs across multiple academic levels—including diploma, undergraduate, master’s, and PhD degrees. Among its flagship programs are:
- Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy (with IT)
- Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (with IT)
- Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies (with IT)

These programs align with Maseno University’s commitment to integrating Information Technology across all disciplines, ensuring that graduates are not only well-versed in their fields but also equipped with essential digital skills. The full accreditation marks a pivotal moment in Maseno University’s ongoing expansion and underscores its commitment to delivering high-quality education throughout the region. It also reaffirms the university’s strategic vision to decentralize higher education access while nurturing centers of academic excellence beyond its main Campus.
Maseno University extends its gratitude to all stakeholders who have played a role in the journey toward accreditation government agencies, university leadership, faculty, students, and the broader community.
As Odera Akang’o Campus embarks on this new chapter, Maseno University looks forward to continued academic innovation, community engagement, and impactful scholarship that will benefit Kenya.
