The SD4H Training Program held its 1st Mentorship Workshop during this 2021 quarter. The Mentorship Workshop was held on 3rd and 4th June 2021 at the Kisumu Hotel. Mentorship is a focus area under the SD4H program and this was the first workshop in a series to continue strengthening and enhancing mentoring skills/techniques for the SD4H mentors and faculty at Maseno University.

Some of the objectives of the workshop include: developing a culture of mentorship at Maseno University; identifying facilitators and barriers to mentoring at individual and institutional level; exploring concepts of diversity (gender, age, ethnicity) within the Maseno context that may affect the mentoring-mentee relationship; developing individual mentoring and action plans to support mentoring, among others.

The Mentorship Workshop came up with some steps to create a Mentoring Program at Maseno University, that included re-working the current Maseno University Mentorship Policy where a core team to steer the Mentorship Agenda was formed. The team included: Prof. Wilson Odero as Chairman, Dr. Fredrick Aila, Prof. Erick Nyambedha, Prof. Lucas Othuon, Prof. Barack Owuor, Prof. Collins Ouma, Dr. Bernard Guya, Dr. Pauline Andang’o, Dr. Louisa Ndunyu
